Environmental health

The objective of environmental health activities is to safeguard all residents’ right to a healthy and safe living environment.

The objective of environmental health activities is to safeguard, through legislative means, all residents’ right to a healthy and safe living environment. This includes such matters as clean drinking water, good indoor air quality and safe food. Environmental health covers assignments in accordance with the Health Protection Act, the Food Act, the Tobacco Act, and the Act on Veterinary Services.

Environmental health legislation requires that each  municipality must have an environmental health control plan (pdf-file, in Finnish). The control plan provides a comprehensive overall image of what is being done in terms of environmental healthcare and how the control operations are implemented.

The control measures referred to in the environmental health control plan are usually subject to a charge (price list of environmental healthcare, pdf-file, in Finnish).
